"SITE INVESTIGATION AND INVENTORY"

INTRODUCTION

In this project, we learnt about site analysis where we should know not only about the building measurement, but also with the furniture analysis, surroundings, culture, physical things.

Therefore, we went to "The Row" as our site visitation at jalan Dorasamy Kuala Lumpur.

For this project, we divided into 5 groups which every group have different task.

GROUP 1 : PHYSICAL STUDIES

Site context, sun path, glare, reflections, shadows, natural ventilation, noise (acoustic), condition, and surrounding area/neighbouring premises, public transport, nearby buildings, access route - road network, traffic flow, pedestrian flow, view outward, vegetation, surrounding structures / buildings – types, characteristics, styles, etc.

GROUP 2 : ART + CULTURE

Social composition, income level, night life, lunch rush hour, age group, user/population group/profiling, behavioral patterns, habits, preferences, user types / lifestyle, occupations, competitor, facilities, etc.

GROUP 3 : BUILDING ANALYSIS + INTERIOR

Existing condition of interior elements consists of wall, floor, ceiling, door, window, staircase, roof, openings, built-in furniture, spatial function and layout analysis, natural ventilation, etc.

GROUP 4 : SITE MEASUREMENT & DRAWINGS

Measured drawing exercise on the site - include plans, sections and elevations. All structural members are must include the beam, column, slab, stairs, etc.

GROUP 5 : SITE MODEL & SPACE MODEL

The detailed model of the existing site within 2km radius as well as detail space model in an appropriate scale.

For this project, I am a member of group 1 for physical studies. There are 7 members in my group. Our leader is Leon Koek and the other embers are Hiew Cai Yao, Chia JingYi, Nicholas Tan Hao Lun, DSash Ng, Bisa Saili, Arriesa Lee.

The requirements for this project, we need to produce minimum 1 A1 board and maximum 2 A1 board for our physical studies.

PROGRESSION

After discussed with all of my group mates and tutorial with 3 lecturers, we decided to make all in 2 A2 Board.

The vertical board, we were  planing to put the title, section model not to scale, and our analysis data about the physical studies. for the section, i want to show the example of the permanent stuffs at that place, and to show the natural ventilation and air circulation at the interior. So, roughly, we can say that the vertical is about interior and data.

Then horizontal, we will put all the site analysis through the model. So, almost similar with group 5 for the site model, but we put all the data about our physical studies. So, we can easily show where is the center of noise, traffic, the pedestrian flow, air circulation, sun path, and etc. Then we will put lights, to show the main way to access the Row and after that, we will give some interactive analysis data. Side from all of that, since we learn about the sun path, sun glare, reflection, hence we want to show the physical sun at our horizontal board. Where we will use string and ping-pong ball with light, to show the sun from east to the west.

REFLECTIVE

Through this project, i have learn a lot about the site visitation studies. Where we not only go to the site and do measuring, but we also need to observe, identify, analyse all aspects that related to the buildings it self such as the culture, the neighborhood, the surroundings, the interior and exterior, etc.

Then, for my group studies, i learnt a lot about how to identify all physical aspects such as the sun path, glare, reflection, natural ventilation, air circulation, smells, pedestrian flow, and etc. i am prety sure that this task for physical studies will be really important foe me and everyone either in next higher semester or in real works

Side from that, I am so thank-full to all the lecturers and specially for all of my group-mates that able to cooperative in this group. i learnt how to adjust with them in terms of group works, how important to controlling, encouraging, pushing each other. Personally, I realized that in group works there are so many problems, but i learn hoe to managed all of that. Controlling ego, and encoraging each other is the main key for group project.
