WEEK 1  (3 HOURS)


INTRODUCTION TO OUR PROJECT AND TASK

In this subject, we will learn how to foster our sense of care and concern among students for their community and the world at large. We will learn how to anticipate in social community events and also developing our personal and social responsibility or humanity sense.

For the task, we will contribute as a volunteer to enhancing the interior of reading space at Ulu Melaka Orang Asli Vilage, Serendah, Selangor.

In this module, we as semester 3 BIA, will work together with BIA semester 2, BIA semester 6, DID semester 4, and DID semester 5.
Therefore, we are divided into 6 groups.
Group 1 : Sponsorship Team
Group 2 : Neighbourhood
Griup 3 : Wall + Floor Transformation
Group 4 : Shelves + Books
Group 5 : Fun Learning Aids
Group 6 : Pre + Post

Then, I participate in group 5 for Fun Learning Aids. Specifically, I will more concern in math team with another 3 group members.
The task is, we have to produce one fun learning aid that able to hang on the wall.




WEEK 2 (2 HOURS)

 PREPERATION FOR PRESENTATION

After discussed about our plan and ideas for math learning aid, then we decided that parisa and me will work together for the first idea, and tisyia and yi jie will work together for the second idea.
for this part, our idea is using cubes with numbers. and i am the person in charge to make the 3d design by using sketchup.  because this idea still not approved by our lecturers and for our presentation we just need the design ideas, so i just make the 3D view not to scale.


WEEK 4 (3 HOURS)

PRESENTATION AND PROPOSAL
(27 april 2019)

First of all, we discussed some ideas about the suitable interactive aid as our proposal for the presentation at week 4 (27 April). The design should be interesting, easy to work, and suitable for 5 to 7 years old students.
Therefore, we came out with 2 ideas.

FIRST IDEA
Snake & ladder + Abacus
The abacus is about combining with the snake and ladder where this game will function as a calculator for students. Also, the design with snake & ladder is to make math is not boring for them.

Materials :
- MDF board
- PVC board
- Styrofoam cube
- Velcro
- Poster paint
- Laser cut


How To Use It :
- Count the numbers they rolled on the dice
- Recognize the numbers
- Would have to slide down to a lower number when they roll on to the number with the snake
- Repeat the process









SECOND IDEA
The second idea, will use cube with numbers to learn about addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. We proposed to make this game as an quiz as well.
The cubes are spin-able and has different numbers written on each side. There is a white board or black board on the other side for students to write the answers. The dry board marker will be provided 40 pieces.

Materials :
- MDF board
- Styrofoam
- Foam numbers
- Craft paint
- Spray paint
- Wooden skewers & sticks
- Dry erase board & markers
Total cost (estimation) : RM 141.45

After presentation on Friday, we finally decided to choose the second idea for the math learning fun aid. The reasons are, this game is easier for kids and kids will be able to play it without adult supervision.
Henceforth, 4 of us in group math fun learning aid will focus to the second idea which is the spin-able number cubes.

3 MAY 2019

MATH GROUP MEETING WITH LECTURER

A week after presentation, we scheduled a meeting with our lecturer Ms Norji Nasir to discuss further about our ideas and materials that we will use.
We meet wit the lecturer at 1pm - 2.15pm and continue around 15 minutes discussion with our group members.

from the meeting there are some points that we need to do, improve, add on.
- due to the given space is consider big, rather than only for the idea of the cubes, we will add on the snake and ladder also. So, both ideas in our proposal, now approved by our lecturer.

-  we need to discuss and decide about the material that we will use. Such as the cubes will be made by 3d print, the snake and ladder will use velcro or magnet.

- we need to explain and test about the installment

WEEK 6    (3 HOURS)
11 MAY 2019

FINDING MATERIALS

On the 11th of May, my math group and English group, together with finding those materials that we need and also to research the price, quality, and quantity of those materials.

WEEK 7    (3 HOURS)
13 & 14 MAY 2019

After discussion with the lecturer and group mates, we decided that for the cubes, numbers, ladders, we will make with 3d printing.

1 hour on 13th May, I revised the 3d Sketchup file with the accurate size dimension and export the files to the STL format for 3d print.

The next day, we spent 2 hours to process our 3d printer to the 3d printer supervisor. After that, we just submit some numbers files with ladders, while the cubes we need to make again because will take too long and expensive if we will make a solid cube. Hence, we need to make separate each side of the cube and numbers.

WEEK 8

20 Minutes
After I prepared the file for the cubes that we need to separate into 6 sides, we bring the file to Mr. Ahmed for 3d print. Aside from that, we also collect some of the numbers and the ladder was already done.

2 Hours
Aside from 3d print, we decided to use acrylic for some part, specifically for the snake. Tisya as the members in charge for the snake part was making the snake file inside the laser cut print. then, we proceed the file into the laser cut finish. And after that, we also met mr. Ahmed because we have some problems with the multipication result. it may be caused by the file. Hence, we decided to make again the file for multipication. Due to the queue and laptop problem, we need to make this part for 2 hours long.

WEEK 9

25 Minutes
The next day, we spent time to check some of the planes and the new multiplication. We also ask Mr. Ahmed to help us to finish this faster, and we can do assembling with, Mr. Fandy faster,  due to the submission date on the 12th of July.

20 Minutes
The next day, we went to art friend to buy some MDF boards with 2mm thickness. for the backing of all the maths items.

WEEK 10

3 Hours
On Friday, we start to make the backing part. with 5 of A1 MDF boards. Then, we spray paint all the MDF boards with white colors. To finish this boards, we used 7 can of spray paints.




WEEK 11

4 Hours
On Tuesday, our group starts to make the snake and ladder part. We painted the whiteboard to make colorful lines and stick the 3d print numbers with wood glue on the board. Then, we also used acrylic glue to glue the acrylic snake on the backing.

5 Hours
The next day, we continue to paste the numbers and ladder to snake and ladder.
Aside from that, we collected all the cubes plane, and start to make the cubes part. It starts with releasing the plane from the backing. Next, we continue to glue all the 6 planes to become cubes.

6 Hours
On Wednesday, our group starts to do works in the wood workshop to assembling the cubes part to the frame and backing. We ask mr. Fandy to help and guide us to finish all of this by Wednesday.
Mr. Fandy made one example for all of us, then we continued to make the same thing like the hole. the frame. the stopper, and etc

6 Hours
The next day, we continue working for finalizing everything. We start to work in the workshop from 2.30PM. For this part, we just finalize with screwing all items to the backing. After everything finishes, we buy 2 cups of Starbucks for Mr. Hmed and Mr. Fandy to thankful for their help for us.

5 Hours
At the site, in Serendah, only few members of group 5 came to there for installment. Thus, all of us in group art, science, math, and english help each other in installing it. For installing tools, we use screw, washer, visher plastic, and driller.
